Jamie Kinley, MSW, LCSW

Hello! I am Jamie Kinley. I am a therapist here at Denver Mental Health Collective, but you can also call me a depression and anxiety warden, an identity explorer, and a relationship navigator.

I help individuals and couples experiencing anxiety, mood disorders, trauma, personality disorders, and relationship issues discover their core values to create more meaning in their lives.
My ideal clients are adults 18+ who are going through a difficult transition or trying to determine who they are as a person in the midst of managing a mental illness.

Depression and Anxiety Warden

Are you feeling excessive worry over things that seem insignificant? Do these worries make it difficult for you to engage in daily tasks that seem to come easily for others? Do you find it difficult to get out of bed in the morning or seem to have lost the joy of life? Let’s work together
to reduce the symptoms of depression and anxiety using mindfulness and cognitive behavioral techniques.

I find Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), as well as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), effective in combating the overwhelmingness of depression and anxiety. These evidence-based therapy modalities can be used to retrain your
mind to more helpful ways of thinking and give you a better sense of control over your actions.

Identity Explorer

Have you found yourself in a stage of life where you are unsure of who you are or what you want? Do you feel like your plans differ from those around you, leaving you feeling alone or confused? Are you discovering or questioning your gender or sexuality? Let’s talk about your
core values and the best path for you as an individual.

It’s hard enough determining who you are without those closest to you and everyone on the internet giving their opinions. We can go on the great journey of self-discovery together while utilizing some ACT and motivational interviewing along the way.

Relationship Navigator

Do you and your partner feel lost or stuck in your relationship? Do you find that you are arguing all the time? Have you recently ended a relationship? Have you lost the spark you once felt? Let’s work together individually or as a couple to heal wounds and/or rekindle what has been lost.

I have been trained in Gottman theory of couples work which can also be helpful on an individual level. If your relationship has ended, we can work together to rebuild a life of independence or get back to cultivating new, healthy relationships in your life.

Education and Training

I received a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and a master’s degree in social work from University of Illinois Chicago. I am licensed in both Illinois and Colorado. I worked for many years in Chicago serving low-income individuals experiencing severe mental illnesses and co-occurring substance use disorders and medical conditions. I have also provided therapy for members of the Chicago and Denver communities for the past five years.
