Dale Peterson, PhD

Hello! I am Dale Peterson.  I am a psychotherapist here at Denver Mental Health Collective, but you can also think of me as an Empathic Listener, a Change Encourager, and a Partner in the Journey.

So many negative and unnecessary internal issues and beliefs can interfere with being the person we want to be.  Discussing emotional difficulties and resolving those obstacles can lead to increased satisfaction with life, with more hopefulness and contentment.

Have you felt sad, stuck, or discouraged, maybe for a long time?  Are you facing a life transition and feel overwhelmed and unsure?  Have you had a significant loss or are you recovering from a traumatic event or relationship?  I would like to walk with you to resolve the issues that are standing in the way of a brighter and more positive future.

My ideal clients are adults, including older adults, who are experiencing sadness, grief, or guilt/shame.  You may have a hard time labelling it, but have a sense that your life is overwhelming; it may be a struggle to cope or to pretend that everything is OK.  I have helped many people with parenting children (from tantruming toddlers to rebellious adolescents to the grown child who can’t seem to find their direction in life.)   Many clients have sought therapy because they are in a very difficult relationship.  I use insight-oriented strategies, and am very comfortable with faith-based issues.

Empathic Listener

Psychotherapy begins by truly listening to and understanding you and your concerns.  You can tell your story without fear of judgment or criticism.  You are likely to be surprised at what you will discover about yourself by talking about your life and your concerns in a safe place.  I would like to provide that safe and supportive environment for you.

Change Encourager

Change is hard!  Even though we suspect that a new approach is needed, it can be very difficult to do something new.  When you’re ready to try a fresh strategy, I would like to help clarify your choices and encourage your progress.

Partner in the Journey

You are the expert on you!  Most of the answers are already inside you.  Rather than leading or directing, I would like to walk with you, providing understanding, support, and encouragement as you move toward your goals.
