Dori Bonner

Hello and welcome!

It is through my own suffering and challenges that I was led to the counseling profession. I know first hand just how difficult it can be not only to acknowledge the need for change, but to take the steps necessary in seeking help. Congratulations on your decision and bravery in reaching out. I am a strong believer in that our thoughts, feelings, and actions are intertwined and thereby how we think affects how we feel which in turn impacts how we act.

Perhaps it is through my experience as a first generation immigrant, I takes pride in being a thoughtful multicultural counselor who accepts people from different walks of life. Additionally, as a mother of a beautiful extra needs child, I am impassioned with helping families of children with extra needs. Further, as a military spouse and mom to three military children, I understand the unique challenges that our brave military families encounter and I would consider it an honor and privilege to work with veterans, active duty military officers, and their families.

My approach to counseling is first, take the time not only to build a therapeutic alliance with each client by learning your unique story, but to also understand your approach to challenges, tap into your strengths, challenge you to address your limitations and finally customize an evidence based intervention that works best with your unique personality, timeline for therapy, and goals. While I am a solution focused therapist, I also incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution Focused Therapy, Multicultural Therapy, Culturally Sensitive Therapy, Family Systems Therapy, Marriage and Family Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, and play therapy.
