Hello! I’m Emily, Licensed Professional Counselor here at Denver Mental Health Collective. I work to help others build healthy relationships in their personal and professional lives. Think of me as your self awareness guru, family role interpreter and boundary builder.
My goal is to help you discover yourself in new ways. Together, we build awareness of themes in your life and how they relate to your family of origin. I have spent the last 8 years working on my craft to care for others and help break unhealthy cycles. I draw from CBT and TF-CBT strategies, family systems, mindfulness practices and relational psychodynamics to help others with anxiety, depression, processing loss and trauma, as well as, family conflict and relationship issues.
Self awareness guru
I use mindfulness and client centered therapy techniques to help pay attention to your emotional experience, identify the role you play or played in your family that is still being played out in other relationships today. I help you find self acceptance in your own personality and build awareness of how that is impacted by others.
Family role interpreter
Are you the hero, the scapegoat, the lost child, the mascot or the enabler? No matter your role, you are enough! Let’s dive into how your role in your family unit contributes to unhealthy cycles that have happened in the past or are happening now. I use relational psychotherapy, CBT and family systems strategies to empower and make changes for the better.
Boundary builder
What is ok and what is not ok, for you? These are your boundaries. Sometimes we don’t know what that is, but I’m here to help you figure it out. Together we can identify the boundaries that need to be created for a more healthy lifestyle or grieve the lack of boundaries in the past to create “repair moments”. These light bulb moments, when you realize that the thoughts and beliefs that have been sold to you by others are not your truth, can bring about lasting, powerful healing. To help this process, together we build your self care and strengthen coping skills that serve well in establishing healthier relationships.
Education & Training
Education: I graduated with a BA from Western Washington University in Psychology and an MA in Counseling Psychology from The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology.
Work: In addition to training and an internship within the field of Counseling Psychology, I have worked with clients in a private practice setting for over 3 years. During this time I have gained a specialty in working with teens, adults and families suffering from anxiety and/or depression, autism, and delinquent teens. Within my work I help my clients build awareness and learn about where their anxiety or conflict stems from allowing for new, healthy relationships and long term change.
