What is anger?
Anger is what’s called an ’emotional state’. It can vary in intensity from mild irritation to full-blow rage. And similar to other emotions, it brings about other physiological and biological changes. For example, when you get angry, your heart rate will increase as will your blood pressure. Hormones and other chemicals in your body tend to increase during episodes of anger, and all of these can affect your reaction to anger.
Anger is caused by external events – such as someone’s actions or a delayed flight – or things just going on inside your mind. Anger management is the key to keeping this emotion under control.
What is anger management?
The goal of anger management is to try to get your emotional feelings and your psysiological responses under control so that you respond to a stressful situation rather than react. We can’t remove irritations in life, but we can get much better in how we respond to them. Anger Management Therapy helps you get there.
Do you need anger management counseling?
If you know that your anger is out of control, if loved ones are telling you that it is, or if your anger is impacting the quality of your life, then you should consider discussing your situation with a trained mental health professional. A psychologist or other licensed mental health professional will be able to help you develop a wide range of techniques to improve how you process anger-inducing situations.
When interviewing a potential therapist, ask them about their approach to anger management. Make sure they have the appropriate level of experience in the matter and that they will help you develop skills as well as just expressing your feelings.
Anger management therapy is a highly successful form of therapy. And it can make a significant improvement for you and your loved ones. If you’d like us to show you how CBT can help you find new peace, set up a free phone consultation today.
